Carrau Wineries
La tradición vitivinícola de la familia Carrau comienza en la región de Cataluña, España en el siglo XVIII, hace más de 270 años, para luego trasladarse a Uruguay en 1930.
Since then, the Carrau family has been part of a small group of families in the world who have dedicated themselves, silently and tirelessly, to the development of a tradition, currently representing ten uninterrupted generations of winemakers.
En 1976 la familia funda Vinos Finos Juan Carrau S.A., un proyecto de gran ambición para el cual importa vides libres de virus de selección clonal con criterios revolucionarios para aquel tiempo. El proyecto en marcha es declarado de interés nacional en 1977 ya que, entre otras razones, la finalidad era exportar y hacer conocer los vinos uruguayos en el mercado internacional.
La importancia de este emprendimiento justifica que se le considere el punto de partida de una nueva etapa en la vitivinicultura.

Our history dates back to the mid-19th century of Genoese immigrants, settled on the outskirts of Montevideo. Around 1903, Juan Pedro Domingo and Antonio Giacobbe found the ideal geographical conditions in the Manga area to dedicate themselves to the cultivation of vines and the production of good wines.
They continued the tradition passed down from their families, working mainly with the Harriague variety, today known as Tannat, to later start making and selling wines.
